How the benchmark is calculated

Segment sales, net profit and assets are the sums of all companies in the selected peer group. Segment profit margin = combined net profit ÷ combined sales. Segment ROA = combined net profit ÷ combined assets. Company share = company sales ÷ segment sales.

Comparability matters

Use consistent financial years, units, consolidated or standalone statements, and a carefully chosen peer universe. A company may operate in several businesses; segment reporting data is needed for a true product segment comparison. The uploaded company totals alone cannot isolate, for example, passenger vehicles from a diversified automobile group.
